Indian Railways completes subway construction at a busy railway track in Andhra Pradesh in less than five hours
2018-07-11
As reported, the Railways used a workforce of about 300 to complete the task in about four-and-a-half hours. Further, 16 heavy duty (HD) excavators, three HD cranes, five tippers, 1,000 sandbags, four hydra machines and heavyweight jacks were used.
The work to construct the subway was sanctioned in 2017. The limited height subway work, which comprised the installation of 20 segments of 1.5 m width, was reportedly completed in four-and-a-half hours.
Reports suggest that the track was initially removed with the help of cranes, and earthwork was started from both the sides, while the work related to the shifting of boxes and base plate was done simultaneously. Once halfway through, the surface was prepared and base slabs and pre-fabricated boxes were placed using HD cranes.
While the Railways constructed the subway in less than five hours, the approach road there was constructed in one and a half month.
