Swedish group Atlas Copco making in India for 60 years

Atlas Copco ? a world-leading provider of sustainable productivity solutions ? has been making in India for close to 60 years. Atlas Copco serves customers in India and global markets through its innovative compressors, vacuum solutions, generators, pumps, power tools and assembly systems.

The Executive Committee of Atlas Copco (ECM) recently met in India as part of its global visit. The meetings in India reiterate the collaborative steps taken by the company in sync with the government?s ?Make in India? initiative. India is an important market for the company, and the company has consistently grown and invested in India.
In 2013, the company announced an investment of Rs 100 crore on manufacturing of industrial and portable compressors at Chakan the state-of-the-art green factory, which is IGBC Indian Green Building Gold Council) God certified, in accordance with LEED (Leadership in Environmental Energy and Design) best practices. In addition, the factory has an ISO 50001 certificate for energy management since 2016, on top of the triple certification ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 9001.

Atlas Copco Product Company Chakan is a leader in Lean manufacturing, providing continuous improvements, like the installation of solar cells on its rooftop early this year. The plant is now almost autonomous in electricity, powered at 80 per cent with renewable energy. The factory environmental footprint will now save 600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

More on the innovation front, Atlas Copco recently launched Smart Connected Assembly solutions in India to drive its Industry 4.0 vision. The company manufactures a range of industrial products that are built on state-of-the-art technology. These products offer a complete solution for flexible productivity, highest quality and safety standards, and efficiency.

In 2002, Atlas Copco established an R&D centre ? Global Engineering Center India Airpower (GECIA) ? in Pune, which today employs over 650 highly-trained engineers with a broad range of capabilities in software tools, competency training and extensive product knowledge.

Earlier this year, President and CEO Mats Rahmstrom met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Stockholm, to discuss the company?s plans in India.
