Assam lays foundation stone for riverfront development and other projects

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has laid the foundation stone for executing the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project and several other proposed projects undertaken by the Water Resources and Urban Development Department.

The planned initiatives will aim to improve urban infrastructure in Dibrugarh. These initiatives include the second phase of the Assam Integrated Flood and River Bank Erosion Risk Management Project, the Dibrugarh sub-project funded by the Asian Development Bank worth Rs 790 million, developing a project facilitation centre and other programmes to be carried out by the Assam State Disaster Management Agency.

These development initiatives are expected to encourage the beautification drive of Dibrugarh. The Central and state governments are also adopting development projects for improving infrastructure and other amenities of urban settlements in the state.

As reported, six major towns in the state will receive Rs 2 billion each, under City Infra Development Fund (CIDF), related to improvement of urban infrastructure. The Chief Minister has reportedly emphasised on the correct use of funds for the execution of projects. As reported, he also praised the Water Resources Department for timely execution of flood and erosion works by introducing 103 schemes on a single day for the entire state. This is expected to help the people of the state.
