The Andhra Pradesh government has agreed to take up the work of constructing a railway under bridge (RUB) at Rayalacheruvu gate in Tirupati. As reported, the state government has already sent its approval to the South Central Railway (SCR) authorities.

The project will be made at Rs 94.4 million, and the Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) will bear the cost from its funds. The government has reportedly asked SCR to support TUDA in constructing the RUB. The RUB will connect the northern and southern parts of the city from a vital location. Even though the railway authorities proposed to construct an RUB there, it faced hurdles since the drainage has to be diverted from the level-crossing area. According to reports, once the drain is diverted, TUDA will start the work in the next two months.

There are attempts to remove 16 level crossing gates between Chandragiri and Renigunta stations in the next two years. Out of these, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct two railway overbridges, and Railways will develop RUBs of limited height at the remaining 12 level crossing gates.

In relation to the Tirupati station redevelopment, the bids have reportedly been opened and being assessed. In two months. As reported, works worth Rs 4 billion will be undertaken in the public-private partnership (PPP) mode. This will provide Tirupati station with world-class amenities as per requirement, for the next 10-15 years. Tirupati west station will also be redeveloped since there is availability of land. For providing more space to main station, the maintenance works will be transferred to west station.
