128-km Satara-Ahmednagar ring road to start after NHAI approval. More details here!

Work on the proposed first phase of the 128-km ring road from Satara Road to Ahmednagar Road has reportedly hit a roadblock since the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) did not grant work permission due to technical queries. As reported, these queries were raised by the NHAI after meeting the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) officials. The PMRDA is expected to start working on the project after receiving a nod from NHAI.

After the main carriageway is given a nod, tenders for the service roads will reportedly be approved. After the approvals, the funds for the main carriageway and the service road construction will be released. The PMRDA will construct the service lanes for the proposed first phase of the project by spending Rs 3.26 billion from its own kitty.

The project is estimated to cost nearly Rs 238.28 billion, of which the Centre will provide Rs 102.34 billion. The remaining Rs135.94 billion will have to be generated through town-planning and other schemes. An amount of Rs 19.81 will be given by the Centre for the main carriageway.

As reported, PMRDA will get hold of land with the help of town-planning schemes by increasing floor space index (FSI) or through transfer of development (TOD) rights for the 97 km stretch of the project. For the remaining 31 km land, as reported, PMRDA will directly buy the land from the owners after negotiations.

After the first phase is completed, there is expected to be an increase in traffic movement in the following years. The second phase will stretch between Ahmednagar Road and Nashik Road, in which PMRDA will construct a road from Wadki to Pargaon Memane village in the Purandar taluka.
