First tender for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train to be issued in December. Know more about the highest valued tender in India!

The first major tender for the construction of India?s ambitious bullet train project is reportedly said to be issued by December-end. The tender is expected to be floated for the 237-km-viaduct and four stations in Gujarat, of the 508-km-corridor. National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) will reportedly seal the tender. It is expected to be the highest-valued tender in India.

Pre-construction activities such as identification of utilities and critical structure, joint measurement survey and geo-technical investigation in the areas have already been completed, as reported, and more work is expected to commence soon. The project has been divided in 26 packages for its smooth completion. Including the procurement of bullet trains, the NHSRCL has reportedly targetted awarding the tenders of these packages by the end of 2019.

A large team is reportedly set up for the preparation of tender documents. The corporation expects the first big tender to be ready by the end of December this year. The tender will be for the construction of the 237-km-viaduct and the four stations, namely Vapi, Bilimora, Surat and Bharuch. Though the value of the tender is yet to be disclosed, its estimated cost is reported to be Rs 10 billion. As the decided area is free from hindrance and comes in the middle of the corridor, the NHSRCL has reportedly planned to issue tenders for it. Vapi is close to the Maharastra-Gujarat border, and the corporation has finalised the design for all these stations.

As reported, the tender for every package will be issued separately, including everything from rolling stock to training institute, civic and electrical work, and construction of depots. All the 26 packages are expected to be floated in 2019.

The bullet train will take two hours and 57 minutes between the two cities if it stops at all 12 stations, namely Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai. Of the 12 stations, eight are in Gujarat and four in Maharashtra. The foundation stone for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project was laid down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe in September last year.
