Baramulla-Kupwara rail project approved. Here?s more!

In order to initiate the expansion connectivity of Jammu and Kashmir, the Government of India has approved the extension of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link up to Kupwara in north Kashmir. The Baramulla-Kupwara rail link project is expected to be taken up by the Indian Railways.

As reported, the Indian railways has prioritised the extension of the rail link and has also sanctioned an updated survey for the upcoming link.

Further, the governor?s administration had also made a strong case for Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch rail link. Meanwhile, speculations on the approval of this project is reportedly also being made. A preliminary engineering-cum-traffic survey for the Jammu-Poonch rail link has reportedly been carried out by the Northern Railways Construction Organisation and submitted to the Railway Board.

The proposals for the two projects ? Jammu-Poonch rail link via Akhnoor and Rajouri and the Baramulla-Kupwara rail link ? was submitted to the Government of India in 2008 and 2010, respectively by the Jammu and Kashmir Government for approval and funding.
