RInfra-Astaldi bags Rs 70 bn Versova-Bandra Sea Link project. All you need to know about the project here!

For the construction of the Versova-Bandra Sea Link Project in Mumbai, Reliance Infrastructure and Astaldi SpA have signed an agreement with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The tender for construction of the second sea link in Mumbai on EPC basis was floated by MSRDC.

With a length of 17.17 km, the Versova-Bandra Sea Link is three times the length of the existing Bandra-Worli Sea Link, which is 5.6 km.

Reliance Infrastructure and Astaldi SpA had earlier bagged the EPC contract for the Rs 70-billion project on a competitive bid basis. The consortium had emerged as the most competitive bidder with their bid of Rs 69.9 billion. The other bidders in fray were L&T-Samsung and Hyundai Development Company-ITD.

"We are proud of having won this prestigious project, which is one-of-its-kind in India. This project will further propel Reliance Infrastructure as a premier EPC company in India. Our partnership with Astaldi SpA, the third biggest construction player in the world in bridges, will help us create a truly world-class mega infrastructure project for Mumbai," commented Arjun Gupta, CEO, Reliance Infrastructure EPC.

Reliance Infrastructure-Astaldi will have to commission the project in five years from the appointed date. However, owing to monsoons, the work would be completely stalled for three months each year. Therefore, the consortium will effectively have just over three-and-a-half years to complete the project.

The largest order executed by Astaldi SpA is the Izmit Bay Bridge (Gebze-OrhangaziIzmir Motorway Project) in Turkey with $7 billion investment for the entire project. Besides, Astaldi has also executed the Western High Speed Diameter Motorway in Saint Petersburg in Russia at a contract value of Ç2.2 billion. The project has a 12-km section with 5.3 km viaducts on sea and two cable-stay bridges; it was opened to traffic in December 2016.
To share your perspective on current industry happenings, write in at feedback@ConstructionWorld.in
