First state-owned sand mine comes up in Khunti

Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation (JSMDC) has opened its first state-owned sand ghat in Khunti district. Reportedly, three more ghats are expected to be opened soon in and around the Garhwa district. Besides, in the current fiscal, JSMDC plans to open over 100 state-owned sand ghats across 24 districts. Of the 560 existing ghats, 400 have been auctioned to private parties and are nearing their expiry of lease terms. JSMDC will be taking over the process under the new sand mining policy that aims to rationalise the ghats.
