MMRDA to commence the operation of Monorail Phase 2. Know more about the project!

Plans are to commence the operations of the second phase of Mumbai Monorail between Wadala and Jacon Circle in Mahalaxmi by January 26, 2019. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reportedly asked the Malaysian operator Scomi Engineering to ensure the second phase?s operation is started by early next year.

Despite having safety clearance of the monorail, the delay in starting over the services on the second phase is because of the shortage of functional traits. At present, 10 trains are allotted, of which only four trains are functional on the first phase between Chembur and Wadala. The remaining six are reportedly non-functional and require repairs. However, the MMRDA has reportedly assured them to be operational by January end.

One monorail train has four coaches and the MMRDA anticipates the ridership to go up to around 1 lakh passengers using monorail daily to around 12,000 passengers daily use the first phase.

Besides, the MMRDA has also issued tenders for 2 MW of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) project. In order to cut down power costs and turn monorail premises carbon zone, the MMRDA has floated tenders. The scope of work for the project, which will be developed under the RESCO mode, includes the design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, storage, civil work, installation, testing and commissioning of the rooftop solar PV project. The bid submission deadline is December 26, 2018.
