Indian Railways Rs. ?8 bn rail link to Himalayas

The Indian Railways will be constructing a railway line up to the Himalayan hill. Worth ?8 bn, the line will reach 5,360 m above sea level on its way to Leh. Nearly, 500 bridges will be built to cover the 300 mile journey from Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh to Leh in Kashmir along with 70 tunnels. The location survey of the first phase is completed and the final location survey is expected to be completed in 30 months.
