PM Modi lays foundation stones for Thane Metro and mass housing project. Know more about the projects!

The foundation stones for the Thane Metro Rail and a mass housing project in Kalyan have been recently laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro and the Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander Metro corridor projects, and also laid the foundation stone for a housing project under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY).

The two metro corridors include the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan stretch of 24.9 km and is expected to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 84.16 billion, and the Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander line, which will run 10.3 km long, is expected to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 66.07 billion. The construction will reportedly begin in March 2019.

The Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan stretch will reportedly have 17 stations and will carry 2.29 lakh commuters daily, while the elevated Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander metro corridor will comprise of eight stations and will be integrated with the Dahisar-Andheri corridor.

The housing scheme will reportedly comprise of 90,000 units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, of which 53,000 units will reportedly be built for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) and 37,000 for Lower Income Groups (LIG). The project is expected to be built in the Taloja node, around railway stations like Juinagar, Sanpada, Kharkopar and Bamandongri, and some bus terminals. The mass housing project is expected to be completed in three phases within three years.
