VOC Port Trust plans third container terminal

According to reports, the VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Thoothukudi plans to construct a third container terminal with the current handling capacity at the two private terminals set to reach its maximum by end of this fiscal. Currently there are two container terminals at VOC Port, PSA SICAL Container Terminal and the Dakshin Bharat Gateway Container Terminal (DBGT). Together, the two terminals are expected to reach a maximum capacity of 1.2 million TEUs by the end of this financial year.

The VOC Port Trust plans to convert berth No. 9 as a container terminal with a handling capacity of 0.6 million TEUs. The tenth birth has also been identified for possible container handling in future with a capacity of 0.88 million TEUs.
