Rail Ministry, Odisha Govt Ink MoU to Redevelop Bhubaneswar Station as Multi-Modal Transport Hub

The East Coast Railway under the aegis of Ministry of Railways inked a MoU with the State Government of Odisha for developing Bhubaneswar station as a multi-model transport hub on September 19. The Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister of Railways and Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan joined the MoU signing ceremony through video conferencing.

Under the agreement, Bhubaneswar station will be redeveloped as a multi-modal transport hub, jointly by the Ministry of Railways and Government of Odisha. Expected to be completed in three years, the hub shall have new terminal building for railway station, city bus terminal, public car parking and other allied civic amenities.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said that denizens of Bhubaneswar would be greatly benefited by this project and it could become a hub for tourism in the area. The Odisha Chief Minister complimented the railway ministry for coming forward take up the project. He said it will be a world class multi-modal transport hub and could be a first-of-its-kind in the country.

Piyush Goyal in a statement said that the focus of the Indian Railways is to improve infrastructure to bring it at par with the best in the world. The minister said that he was happy that Odisha government had come forward to collaborate with the Ministry of Railways.
