APM Terminals Pipavav Trains Villagers to Make Masks in India?s COVID-19 Fight

APM Terminals Pipavav, one of India?s leading gateway port for containers, roll-on/roll-ff, and liquid and dry bulk cargoes has commenced training the women folks of surrounding villages in mask making with the help of Gopi Mahila Mandal, the company said in a media release.

This initiative will ensure the availability of washable cloth masks for all the adults and children in the villages with a population of around 20,000. This will also help in generating employment for the villagers during the lockdown and thereafter.

The main objective of this initiative is to ensure that every adult and child in the villages, cultivates the habit of wearing mask and exercise other precautions to combat the pandemic. These locally made masks will be distributed among the residents and truckers in nearby villages like Rampara, Kumbhariya, Bherai, Shiyalbet, Kadiyali and Pipavav Dham.

The port aims to eventually reach out to 50 villages by facilitating training on mask making so that villages become self-reliant as the mask is vital to the prevention of COVID-19 infection.

This initiative will also provide free of cost masks to approximately 3,000 labourers from 18 villages who are employed under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in the Rajula block.
