Railways Registers Over 10% Jump in Freight Loading YoY

Indian Railways? freight loading for the month of September 2020 till September 6 exceeded last year?s loading and earnings for the same period.

During the period, the Railways? loading was 19.19 million tonnes (MT), which is 10.41 per cent (1.81 MT) higher compared to last year?s loading for the same period (17.38 MT). In this period, the Railways earned Rs 18.36 billion from freight loading which is also Rs 1.29 billion higher compare to last year?s earnings for the same period (Rs 17.06 billion)

In the month of September 2020 till September 6, the Railways? loading was 19.19 MT tonnes, which included 8.11 MT of coal, 2.59 MT of iron ore, 1.2 MT of foodgrains, 1.03 MT of fertilisers and 1.05 MT of cement (excluding clinker).

Besides, Asia?s second-largest rail transporter has been extending several discount schemes to make freight movement by railway an attractive proposition.

The Railways will institutionalise and incorporate this improvement in freight movement in its upcoming zero-based time table.
