South cement manufacturers draw up expansion plans

Manufactures such as Chettinad, Ramco and India Cements are readying plans to expand capacities or set up new factories as the demand for cement is reportedly recovering in southern India. Due to poor prices and excessive capacity, the demand for cement in the south was less impressive, thus forcing manufactures to cut down on production and maintain price line. Other companies including Ramco, Chettinad, Bharathi and Zawar Cements have applied to the Union Environment Ministry for clearances to expand capacities.
