NHAI to construct another four-lane road bridge over Ganga

In order to connect Dighwara in Chhapra district to Sherpur near Danapur in Patna district, a new four-lane road bridge over the River Ganga is expected to be constructed. At the construction of around Rs 25 billion, which would be borne by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the new bridge would reportedly be part of the revised aignment of 160-km long Patna Ring Road.

The Sherpur-end of the proposed new bridge will be connected to Kanhauli near Bihta through the 60-m width ring road, to provide direct access to Bihta airport. The bridge aims to provide hassle-free direct access to the Bihta airport to the vehicles coming from all 26 districts of north Bihar. An aerial survery to oversee alignment of the proposed new bridge has been conducted. Also, as reported, work on the construction of the Kachchi Dargah--Bidupur road bridge has been accelerated and is expected to be completed by January 2021. The decision to construct another four-lane road bridge parallel to the existing Digha-Sonepur JP Setu was taken at the review meeting. The state government will reportedly be constructing the parallel four-lane road bridge from its own resources. That said, a detailed project report for the parallel bridge is being prepared.

Earlier, the ring road was to cross through the JP setu via Sonepur. However, it is now decided that the Patna Ring Road would now be cross from north side of Hajipur district town and cross in Patna district vis the proposed Dighwara-Sherpur road bridge.

As reported, the proposed Dighwara-Shepur bridge will be the sixth road bridge over Ganga in the Patna capital region. It would be constructed 12 to 15 km west from the existing Digha-Sonepur road-cum-rail bridge over Ganga.
