Proposed Delhi-Leh rail project to cut down travel time by 50 per cent

Reportedly, the travel time between Delhi to Leh will be brought down to 20 hours from 40 hours. A new proposed project is expected to bring down the travel time from Delhi to Leh by 50 per cent. The proposed project is expected to cost Rs 833.6 billion.

The rail route is expected to include destinations such as Sundernagar, Mandi, Manali, Keylong, Koksar, Darcha, Upshi and Karu. Nearly 30 train stations are expected to come up, of which Keylong would be one of the main stations on the route. The station will be reportedly built at a height of 3,000 m.

Also, the train is expected to pas through 74 tunnels, 124 longer bridges and 396 smaller bridges. One of the tunnels is estimated to be 27 km-long. The maximum altitude on this route touches 16,627 ft and will reportedly surpass the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Line in China, which is at a height of around 2,000 m above sea level.

In order to find locations, a search has been reportedly done. Not only will this line boost tourism but it will also help the armed forces and give a major push to the development in the Ladakh region.
