Karnataka Cabinet clears Rs 80.15 billion for Bengaluru infrastructure

In order to bring about an overall development in Bengaluru, a special allocation for Bengaluru city has been reportedly made by the Karnataka Cabinet.

Nearly Rs 80.15 billion has been reportedly approved to be spent over the next two years for better infrastructure in the city, under the Chief Minister?s Nava Bengaluru scheme. Just a few weeks earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister had also announced Rs 2,5 billion fund disbursement to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), and the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) to carry out infrastructure project at various levels. The Rs 80.15-billion is beyond the allocations already made for BBMP, BDA, BWSSB, BMRCL or other infrastructure projects in the city such as elevated corridors or the Peripheral Ring Road.

Considering Bengaluru city as the pride of Karnataka and its development as a priority of the state cabinet, the Rs 80.15 billion has been approved for 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21. Under the Nava Bengaluru scheme, projects such as lake development, stormwater drain maintenance and restructuring and white topping of roads will be undertaken. Besides, the civic body is also expected to develop around 40 lakes, a 100-km stretch of roadways within the corporation?s limits and in village areas, footpaths, alternate connectivity to ITPL, multi-story parking in Gandhi Bazaar, etc.

These funds will be provided to the Bengaluru Development Department in different phases over the next three years till 2021 and the work is expected to start by December 2019.

In 2018, over Rs 150 billion were released for six interconnected elevated corridors in Bengaluru that are to be built over the next four years.
