Gurugram-based construction firm APCO Infratech has reportedly bagged the contract for construction of the 6.5-km-long Z-morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. The project is expected to provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Kargil.
The Rs 23.78-billion project was initially awarded to IL&FS and has reportedly been stalled since July 2018. In June this year, state-run National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) had terminated IL&FS? contract and invited fresh bids for the Z-morh tunnel project, as a step to restart work on this under-construction project.
As reported, the Z-morh tunnel is being constructed on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model. ILFS, the earlier contractor, has reportedly completed about 30 per cent of the construction work. Work on the remaining part of the tunnel is expected to be completed in about three-and-a-half years from the date of the contract award.
APCO Infratech reportedly emerged as the lowest bidder for this project ? quoting the annuity amount of Rs 2.96 billion ? amid other firms such as NCC, Ashoka Concessions and Chetak Enterprises that had submitted bids for the NHIDCL project.
