Four-lane Hapur-Meerut stretch to be developed by NHAI to ease congestion

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is now developing a portion of NH-235 given the expectation that once all phases of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) is opened to the public there will be a high amount of congestion. The move is set to create an alternative route to the Hapur-Meerut stretch of the corridor.

The 60km long stretch of the NH-235 connects Bulandshahr to Meerut through Hapur and it is estimated that NHAI is spending Rs 868 crore to strengthen the stretch. The section under development, which is the 30km portion from Hapur to Meerut, is a part of the stretch which is reported to be a four-lane road. The work is also expected to be completed by the end of October.

As reported, this move is important to travellers journeying from Delhi to Meerut since they will have two options to reach their destination ? they can take the DME from Sarai Kale Khan to Dasna in Ghaziabad before commencing on the 30k m route to Meerut or they could take the NH-235 from Hapur.
