Modi inaugurates Kochi-Mangaluru gas pipeline

More than a month and a half after the project was completed in mid-November last year, the Kochi-Mangaluru natural gas pipeline is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today.

Gail (India) Ltd has built the 450 km pipeline, which has a transportation capacity of 12 million metric standard cu m per day. The pipeline will carry natural gas from the liquified natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in Kochi to Mangaluru, via Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

The project?s total cost is estimated at Rs 3,000 crore, and per government figures, its construction created over 12 lakh days of employment. The pipeline contributes to the  government?s ?one nation, one gas grid? slogan.
