Covid-19: Chhattisgarh govt cancels tenders for construction projects

The Chhattisgarh government has cancelled tenders for the construction of the new assembly building and also halted works on major projects in the state in light of the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

The state government also decided to take more stringent measures to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Construction work of the new governor?s house, assembly house, chief minister?s house, residences of ministers and senior officers, new circuit house in the Nava Raipur area (New Raipur) has been stopped, the government told the media.

The ?bhoomi pujan? (ground breaking ceremony) for these works was done on 25 November 2019.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in a tweet, cited citizens as a priority and construction work on all the projects have been halted at the time of crisis.

The state government said it had directed all departments on April 26 that, like the previous year, to ensure stern measures in FY22.

Following the instructions of the Chief Minister, the state also decided to stop the major construction works in Nava Raipur have been stopped with immediate effect.

The chief engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) has issued orders to contractors to stop construction work on these projects, the government said.
