On Monday, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project Phase 2A and 2B, a 58.19 km stretch from Central Silk Board Junction to the Kempegowda international airport via Hebbal Junction, got approved by the Centre.According to DV Sadananda Gowda, Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers, the project, which was expected to cost Rs 14,788.10 crore, is to be completed in five years from the date of approval.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) told the media the project includes integration with other urban transport systems efficiently and effectively and will streamline the city?s urban transportation system.
The union cabinet had approved the same two phases of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project last month, which is anticipated to help travel to the Information Technology and Biotechnology (IT/BT) sectors located in the state?s capital.
The union cabinet stated that the project would streamline the urban transportation system in Bengaluru, which is stressed due to heavy construction in the city, an increase in the number of private vehicles, and intensive developments in the city putting pressure on industrial activities and travel infrastructure and provide the people with a secure, safe, reliable and comfortable public transport.
