Ministry of Aviation plans large scale expansion by 2025

On Thursday, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Civil Aviation Minister, announced that the Ministry of Aviation plans to establish 1,000 new airways and 100 new airports under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme by 2025.

The air services in the country have been democratised under the UDAN project, and efforts have been put in to achieve the target of 1,000 air routes and 100 airports by 2025, he said.

Scindia said while discussing the disinvestment of national carrier Air India that the disinvestment is back on the right track. The financial bids will be invited for this on 15 September 2021.

He also said that the Ministry had created rules for operating drones after discussing with the Defence Ministry and Home Ministers.

He further added that for bigger aircraft, paths for drones would be set up for people to fly drones in specific areas using the software.

On Wednesday, the minister said that the central government plans to provide an affordable air travelling facility.

Previously in four years ago, as a part of domestic civil aviation expansion, new airports and air services started in several small cities, connecting with big ones, Scindia said. A 1,000 new air routes, 363 routes work started. Out of the goal of 100 new airports, 59 airports have been established, Scindia tweets.

The government is putting efforts to expand the aviation sector to provide air services to all people in the coming decade.
