Maha govt to approve changes in Mann-Mahalunge town planning scheme

The Maharashtra government might approve the changes made in the Mann-Mahalunge town planning scheme by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

Out of the total 250 hectares of the scheme, 8.4 hectares lie in the flood line.

PMRDA officials told the media that this scheme had been stuck for four years and may get momentum after the government approves the proposal.

For this scheme, PMRDA has been declared as a Special Planning Authority (SPA) and has sent the changes on 1st July under section 92 of the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices (MRTP) Act. The scheme has about 5,800 beneficiaries, and it was launched back in 2018. As per the scheme, landowners can get 50% of developed land in the same area.

According to the officials, some changes have to be made in the scheme, as about 26 plots lie in the flood line, which has to be readjusted.

The scheme launched in 2018 was ideal for town planning. As per the authorities, if the government speeds up the approval process, then it will gather some momentum, pending for the last three years.

The last 16 months have gone into the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the scheme gets clearance, the process will begin with further suggestions and objectives, officials said.

The clearance of the project may pave the way to more proposed townships. More than 26 town planning schemes have been proposed in the PMRDA's draft detailed project (DP). The project lies in the Ahmedabad town planning scheme, with 78 developed townships in the past decade. The current ring road can cater to 50 more townships.

The town planning scheme proposed a 128 km long ring road project, which will be self-sustainable, with development in the village areas.
