Tamil Nadu CM launches portals to track infrastructure projects

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin has unveiled web portals developed by the Information Technology Department to track the progress of all major infrastructure projects in the state and to allow all IT or ITES companies in the state to interact with the government and contribute to policy making.

The Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) has created the e-munnetram portal, which contains key project details such as agreement dates, start dates, cost estimates, monthly project progress on both financial and physical parameters, location data and GIS layers, and periodic site photographs.

The portal also allows department heads to keep track of progress and flag any critical issues that may cause delays. According to a senior official, a high-level committee chaired by the Chief Secretary monitors the progress of about 200 major infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore on a regular basis. For the time being, e-munnetram is a private portal.

The TNeGA has also created an interactive platform called IT Nanban to engage with the IT industry and allow all IT or ITES companies in Tamil Nadu to interact with the state government on policy development.

Companies have access to all of the IT department's policies, guidelines, and tenders. They will also be able to provide feedback on the most recent policies or raise issues that need to be addressed. According to an official release, the department will then address these feedback or concerns and assist in their resolution.

Tamil Nadu's IT or ITES exports have been increasing at a rate of 10% per year, with significant room for improvement.

Stalin also released two advanced Tamil computing software programmes that the Tamil Virtual Academy had already developed.
