Maharashtra govt to set up airport at Palghar: Aaditya Thackeray

On Friday, Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray told the media that the state government would establish an airport in Palghar, contemplating that the Mumbai airport is being utilised to its full potential while the Navi Mumbai airport, which will be operational in future, might be inadequate to provide to requirements.

Additionally, Thackeray said that while a decision on the Konkan Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) is likely to be taken by January, measures are being taken to install a Bollywood and cricket museum in Mumbai.

Thackeray, who inaugurated the conclave, also discussed several schemes being executed by the government for tourism growth in the state.

Compared to the amenities available in Mumbai, Palghar has fewer facilities, and more attention is being given there. In future, there will be a lot of pressure on the Mumbai and the Navi Mumbai airports and another airport is required. Considering a few years needed to set up a new airport, preparation has already started for the development of an airport at Palghar.

He noted that the government is contemplating developing a cricket museum at the Wankhede stadium, and the search is on to find a suitable place for building a Bollywood museum.

Even though everything was delayed due to Covid restraints, several policy decisions were taken, and a tourism policy was drafted in consultation with all the stakeholders on how to grow the tourism industry (in the state) in the coming few years.

Recently, It has been decided to keep the CRZ area in Mumbai up to 50 meters, and a decision is likely to be taken by January concerning Konkan CRZ. In many big cities of the world, life goes on 24 hours a day.
