Delhi civic bodies to waive off property tax for plots upto 50 sq m

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation, South civic body and East civic body are considering waiving off the property tax for plots of 50 sq metres.

According to a South Corporation, the civic body might waive off property tax of up to 100 sq metres.

Earlier this year, the north civic body passed a proposal in the house to waive off property tax for properties of 50 sq m or less within residential areas.

Jay Prakash, the former mayor, passed the proposal that all residential plots of 50 sq m, including approved colonies, rural areas and unauthorised properties, may be exempt from paying property tax.

He said that the Delhi government rules prohibit only one civic body to make the change. In discussion with other corporations, all come together to waive off property tax for plots up to 50 sq m. This initiative will be people-friendly during these difficult times.

Leader in the House of South corporation, Indrajeet Sehrawat, said that the civic body is planning to increase the area to 100 sq m and provide relief to the economically weaker sections (EWS) of Delhi. The authority is yet to make the final decision.
