2021-11-12

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has doubled the 26.33 km Washimbe Bhalwani section of the Daund-Gulbarga doubling project. The Golden Quadrilateral route will see a significant capacity increase as a result of this project.
On 26 and 27 Oct 2021, Shri Manoj Arora, Commissioner of Railway Safety Central Circle, Mumbai, inspected doubling work in the Washimbe Bhalwani section of the Daund-Gulbarga doubling project. The project included 65 bridges, three new station buildings at Jeur, Pophlaj, and Washimbe stations, and four new electronic interlockings. With the completion of the project, a major bottleneck at Pophlaj station has been eliminated, where trains were being reversed for crossing on this single line stretch on the golden quadrilateral. Out of a total of 224.91 km, this completes 196.43 km of doubling. Train services are now available on the section. RVNL is a subsidiary of the Ministry of Railways that works for and on behalf of the Ministry of Railways. It has the authority to act as an umbrella SPV for project development, resource mobilisation, and other activities, either directly or through the creation of project-specific SPVs or any other financing structure deemed appropriate. RVNL's mandate includes securing extra-budgetary resources from banks, financial institutions, multilateral agencies such as the Asian Development Bank, and bilateral agencies through the formation of project-specific SPVs for Port and Hinterland connectivity through a mix of equity and debt. RVNL is authorised to engage in and conduct business in the creation and expansion of rail infrastructure capacity on a fast track.
