Motilal Nagar involved in controversy over MHADA's tender document
2021-12-16
Motilal Nagar in Goregaon, which is the largest redevelopment project, is involved in controversy in allegations that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has customized the tender document to keep away most of the builders.
MHADA has applied a condition that the net worth of the developers of not less than Rs 9,000 crore as of 31 March can qualify. According to a report, two developers, including Godrej Properties Limited and Prestige Group, have protested against MHADA.
The last date to submit the bids for the Rs 28,000 crore project was December 13. The project is spread across 143 acres of land, including Motilal Nagar I, II and III.
According to a Mumbai-based developer, the tender conditions are designed in a way to exclude all the Mumbai developers and favour a developer with no experience in redevelopment projects.
MHADA floated the tender under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode to rehabilitate 3,717 MHADA tenants and 1,600 slum dwellers.
Motilal Nagar was built earlier in the 1960s as a rehabilitation and resettlement colony for those people who were displaced from the different locations and suburbs in the city.
