Telangana completes 11,342 km roads under PMGSY of 14,320 km target

Telangana has completed road works of 11,342 km out of the 14,320 km target approved to the state under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

TRS MPs comprising Venkatesh Netha, P Dayakar, G Ranjith Reddy, M Kavitha and Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had asked for the details of PMGSY works assigned to Telangana in Lok Sabha on Tuesday. In reply, the Minister of state for Rural Development, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi, told the media that the funds for execution of the scheme were issued by the ministry to the state as a whole.

Further release of funds to the programme implementation units (PIUs) at the district level is done by the respective state depending on the expense to be made. Since 2016-17, Rs 789.22 crore has been issued to Telangana as a Central share for the execution of different interventions or verticals of PMGSY in the state.

During the past five years and current year towards execution of the PMGSY in Telangana, Rs 1,473.94 crore, comprising state share, has been incurred. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyothi additionally said under PMGSY III, Telangana was assigned a target length of 2,427.50 km, out of which 1,119.94 km was authorised to the state on June 22, last year.

Based on the subsequent project bids by the state government, an additional 1,217.05 km was approved on March 31 this year and 58.86 km on May 11 this year. According to the programme guidelines, the timeline for road work completion is 12 working months from the date of issue of the work order.

Where a package includes more than one road work, the total time given for the achievement of the package is 18 months. Also, a period of 21-24 months has been permitted for the bridge works completion surpassing 25-meter in length, depending on site conditions.
