2022-01-05
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved the Lucknow-Kanpur expressway at a cost of Rs 1,935 crore.
Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed about the approval of the expressway in a tweet.
The 63 km six-lane expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur to 55 minutes from the current travel time of two hours. The expressway will run from Amausi airport to Kanpur's proposed Ring Road via Unnao.
According to Diwakar Tripathi, a representative of Lucknow MP and defence minister Rajnath Singh, a 13 km section of the expressway from Amausi airport to Bunni near Unnao will be elevated.
Tripathi said that six flyovers, one railway overbridge, 38 underpasses, and three main bridges will connect the linkage. It will pass through 11 Lucknow villages and 30 Unnao villages. The expressway will also connect to Lucknow's Outer Ring Road, which is currently under construction.
In the first phase, the National Highways Authority of India will build a 13 km elevated section, with the remainder being built by the UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
NHAI project manager N N Giri told the media that tenders for contractors have already been issued, and approximately 65% of the land acquisition work has been completed. The expressway's construction is set to begin in January, and it will take about two years to complete.
