Nagaland Govt to build four-lane stadium road

The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has expressed shock over the Nagaland State Government’s proposal to construct a four-lane stadium road passing through the Dimapur Government College football ground to link the State Stadium from National Highway (NH) 36.

This idea is considered to be thoughtless and technically unworkable since it would cause traffic congestion in the NH.

DNSU told the media that this demonstrates their engineering mindset's inefficiency and lack of inventiveness. The most disappointing and shameful aspect of this plan is that there is no state stadium on the designated state stadium site where the proposed road is meant to be linked.

It was unclear what prompted Nagaland's Youth Resources and Sports Department to suggest building a four-lane stadium road without a stadium.

It reminded the State Government that the New Education Policy envisions a college campus that incorporates all streams, including Science, Arts, and Commerce, as well as skill development programmes, necessitating a large geographical area to accommodate all of the essential physical infrastructures.

The DNSU, on the other hand, expressed dissatisfaction that even the current space at the Dimapur Government College is insufficient to satisfy the NEP's anticipated demands, as 30% of the original college land has encroached with the tacit agreement.

The union urged that the government finish the stadium first, then consider numerous access and departure options on the stadium's east, west, north, and south sides without disrupting the already encroached college land.

It also recommended that the State Government hand up the proposed state stadium site to the Dimapur Government College for the benefit of students and youth if the State Government finds it impossible to execute and finish the works within this first quarter of the twenty-first century.
