Hinduja to redevelop heritage properties for over £700 mn in India
2022-05-29
Gopichand P Hinduja, Co-Chairman of the Hinduja Group, told the media that two more heritage properties for £700 million to £1 billion each in London and India, respectively, will be declared over the next two to three months for redevelopment.
The first announcement that you will listen to next week is from London. It’s a very unusual one. More unique than the one the company is working on is the Old War Office building (OWO). The property in India will take 2-3 months, Hinduja said.
Those are all historical properties, the company doesn’t want to go in anything modern, preferring historical and heritage. The company wants to leave a legacy back. There is no project which is negotiating less than 700 million to a billion pounds.
The Hinduja Group has developed a new business vertical to undertake similar development projects in various parts of the world, Hinduja said.
Eight years after obtaining the UK's iconic OWO building that was once occupied by the UK’s war-time Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the Hinduja Group is likely to launch it this year around Diwali. The OWO has been redeveloped into a 120-room luxury hotel and 85 branded residences now.
The Old War Office, originally constructed in 1906 and designed by British architect William Young, is steeped in history and was situated at one of London’s most historically important, and powerful addresses. Formerly the site of the original Palace of Whitehall, home to Henry VIII and other monarchs, the building has seen world-shaping events whilst influential political and military leaders, including Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George, held office.
