Jindal Steel to set up India's first Rail Wheelset manufacturing factory

Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) announced that it will build India's first Rail Wheelset manufacturing factory at its Raigarh location in Chhattisgarh. For this challenging project, JSP partnered with GIFLO Steel - Hungary.

GIFLO Steel - Hungary and Jindal Steel signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for technical partnership on May 27, 2022, at the India Hungary Business Forum held by the Embassy of Hungary and FICCI in the national capital.

The factory's initial capacity will be 25,000 wheelsets per year. Jindal Steel will also set up a rail forging machine for asymmetric rails, commonly used in rail track switches, particularly for high-speed train lines.

In India, JSPL is the sole manufacturer of Head Hardened Rail grades 1080 HH and 1175HT for large axle loads of over 25 tonnes and high-speed applications. Rails in grades R 260 and 880 are also available for 60E1, ZU 1-60, and 60E1A1 profiles from JSPL. For its international customers, JSPL has also provided R350 HT Grade Rails.

For heavy axle weights of more than 25 tonnes and high-speed applications, JSPL is the only manufacturer of Head Hardened Rail grades 1080 HH and 1175HT in the nation.

JSPL also offers rails in grades R 260 and 880 for 60E1, ZU 1-60, and 60E1A1 profiles. It has also offered R350 HT Grade Rails to its foreign customers.

V R Sharma told the media that JSP is trying to satisfy the country's demand for various grades of Rails while keeping worldwide quality and safety requirements because of its skill and grasp of the intricacies of rail rolling.

He said their rail factory in Raigarh has been delivering exceptional grades of rails to several Metro and Indian Railway projects under construction.
