LIT conducts draw of flats under Atal Apartments scheme

The Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) conducted a draw of lots for flats to be constructed under the Atal Apartments scheme at Nehru Sidhant Kendra.

The draw was conducted for 336 high-income groups (HIG) and 240 middle-income groups (MIG) flats. The LIT obtained 821 applications for HIG flats and 151 applications for 240 MIG flats.

A list of residents whose names were announced in the draw will now be sent to the local bodies department for approval, following which tenders for the construction work will be floated.

The officials asserted that the entire process can take at least a couple of months.

Deputy commissioner-cum-LIT chairman Surabhi Malik began the draw, and then officials continued the draw. The officials called the applicants and offered to pick the chits for the selection process.

Former LIT chairman Raman Balasubramanium attended the programme to expect applicants the best of luck and also took out chits from the box.

There were no takers for 89 flats under the MIG category while there were more applicants for HIG flats. The officials claimed that they have sealed the remaining flats and will decide on the same later.

The MIG flat price has been fixed at Rs 37 lakh, while HIG would cost about Rs 48 lakh to citizens. The chosen applicants will have to clear the payment in five instalments, and three years will be provided to the contractor for the flats construction.

Surabhi Malik said the draw was finished properly. The event was live-streamed so that people were not required to visit the spot because of hot weather situations and the surge in covid cases.

She said they would get more such projects to the public, and attention would be paid to the colonies' maintenance under the LIT.

Land acquisition officer of LIT Neeru Katyal told the media that flats would be built on 8.8 acres of land at Pakhowal Road, and the complex will have a small commercial centre, gymnasium, swimming pool, and parking facility.

Since 2008, the Atal Apartments scheme has been hanging fire. For this project, the foundation stone had been laid twice.

The foundation stone was first laid by then local bodies minister Tikshan Sood in 2011 and then by prior CM Charanjit Singh Channi on December 16, 2021.
