Govt to finalise 50 DPRs in FY23 to boost port connectivity

The government aims to focus on port connectivity projects this financial year with a record 50 detailed project reports (DPR) to be finalised in FY23.

Port connectivity projects refer to road projects providing alignment on existing highways that take road networks to ports, facilitating inward as well as outward movement of goods.

The port connectivity projects are given top priority as a part of the PM Narendra Modi’s Gati Shakti plan due to their importance to facilitate trade and augmenting assistance to multi-modal transport.

The government has currently prioritised 65 road projects from a total of 2,041 km to improve road connectivity to the ports.

Out of the total road projects, 9 having a total length of 161 km have been completed, 5 projects of 105 km are awarded under the port connectivity component, and the remaining 4 of 992 km length are being built under other components of Bharatmala Pariyojna.

Action is being taken to finalise DPRs and other formalities for the other 47 projects having a length of 783 km.

Port connectivity road projects are developed to execute the last mile connectivity to improve the efficiency of logistics and cargo handling capacities on all ports in India. The program is envisioned to connect all major ports, non-major ports, and inland waterway terminals in India to create an integrated network for supporting efficient and unhindered freight movement.
