Guwahati to get new traffic control by 2023
According to sources, the Assam Police has submitted a list of traffic junctions for the installation of traffic lights and cameras. In the first phase, a total of 22 junctions will be covered and the remaining in the second phase. Earlier in 2019, the Assam Police and GSCL had initiated a “city surveillance” project to install 4,000 cameras at a cost of Rs 22 billion, which was also shelved.
Right now, the police have to depend on CCTV cameras installed by business establishments, offices, and individuals to keep city vigil.
The ITMS project has been awarded to Delhi-based Onnyx Electronisys, which has over 17 years of experience in traffic signal management.
The GSCL had in September 2020 invited bids for the ICCC project but the matter remained sub-judice because of a case in the Gauhati High Court and the plan was dropped.
