UP to develop 4 data centre parks under Data Center Policy 2021

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday sanctioned proposals to develop four data centre parks under its Data Center Policy 2021 with an over Rs 15,950 crore investment.

An official statement said these would employ approximately 4,000 people directly or indirectly.

The state cabinet also sanctioned non-financial incentives to NIDP Developers Private Limited and financial and non-financial incentives to three other investors — NTT Global Data Centres, Adani Enterprises, and Cloud Infrastructure India.

Under the data centre policy, parks and units are provided stamp duty exemption, capital subsidy, interest subvention, on purchase or lease of land, and different other non-financial incentives apart from energy-related financial incentives.

In another significant decision, the state cabinet sanctioned the proposal to set up a repair, maintenance, and overhaul hub for aircraft at the upcoming Jewar airport.

PWD minister Jitin Prasada said that there was a pressing requirement for Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hubs in the state to provide for the ongoing development and expansion in the civil aviation segment.

Maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft utilised for operations in the civil aviation sector is an ongoing and time-bound process. Currently, due to the absence of MRO installation in India, aircraft are sent for repair to places like Dubai, and Singapore, where repairs are expensive and time-consuming, Prasada said.

Stating that there are huge possibilities of setting up MRO hubs in Uttar Pradesh, he said that about one thousand new aircraft are likely to be purchased in the country by 2026.

The state will not only earn income but would also be able to deliver a large number of employment opportunities with this policy, he said, adding that it will also pave the way for the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in UP. It will have a positive impact on the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country and the state apart from saving time and foreign exchange.
