Two rail projects to gain traction under Shinde’s regime

Two expensive infrastructure projects in Nashik are set to gain more traction under the incoming Eknath Shinde administration. The final approval from the Union cabinet for the Nashik Metro Neo and Nashik-Pune semi-high speed rail corridors is still pending. despite the fact that the nodal agencies responsible have already begun laying the framework for their implementation.

Both of these projects, according to government sources, were ‘pet projects' of the former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. They are hopeful that the current administration would give these two projects greater attention given the Centre's push to expand infrastructure across a variety of sectors.

The fact that Fadnavis stated that the development of infrastructure in the state during the previous MVA administration had taken a "backseat" during a media interview in Mumbai lends validity to the observations of the government officials.

Nashik Neo is being implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha metro), while Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC) is in charge of the Nashik-Pune rail project.

When it comes to the Metro Neo project, Nashik will be the first city in the nation where rubber-tyred metro coaches would travel on elevated corridors rather than the traditional metro coaches.
