Smart Urbanation to hold Smart Project Awards

The Narendra Modi government has given a tremendous boost to building Smart Cities in India by launching the Smart Cities Mission. The purpose of the Smart Cities Mission is to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local area development and harnessing technology, especially technology that leads to Smart outcomes. The focus is on sustainable and inclusive development by the creation of replicable models which act as lighthouses to other aspiring cities.

The mission initially included 100 cities, with the deadline for completion of the projects set between 2019 and 2023. As of March 2022, 3577 projects out of a total of 6939 tendered projects have been completed, utilising Rs 60,073 crore out of the total tendered amount of Rs 191,294 crore. The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has extended the timeline for the implementation of Smart Cities Mission to June 2023 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. These delays are expected to create a hike in the costs of goods and thereby lead to inflation.

Therefore, Smart Urbanation, organised by SMART CITIES COUNCIL INDIA along with Smart Cities Council headquartered in Washington DC and the Australia chapter, now in its 7th year, will bring together all ‘Smart City’ stakeholders (government, corporate and professional) to debate and decode challenges and solutions for India's smart cities journey and is recognising projects executed through Smart Project awards. Smart Urbanation (convention cum trade show 2022), will not only be a platform to learn about these projects, but also give city leaders and private companies a chance to receive some well-deserved recognition for their hard work. In this spirit, the Smart Project Awards will showcase and award those projects that have demonstrated innovative applications of technology in service delivery, encourage innovation, promote and exchange experiences in solving problems, mitigating risks, resolving issues and planning for success.

In 2019, the cities of Belagavi, Davanagere, Mangalore and Tumakuru in Karnataka have been awarded by the Smart Urbanation under the category of Smart Project Awards for the projects executed by them.

The awards will consist of various categories like Smart Water, Smart Energy, Smart Public Safety, Smart Solid Management, Smart Solution for Citizen Services Delivery and Smart Transportation. The Smart Project Awards will consist of a wide range of cities together with SMART and AMRUT cities which have exhibited exceptional transformation.
