The East-West Corridor of the Kolkata Metro will be finished by 2023

Smriti Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, unveiled the Sealdah Metro Station and started the East-West Metro Service between Phoolbagan and Sealdah as part of the Government of India's East-West Metro Corridor in Kolkata.

35,000 daily commuters will benefit from both of these amenities, which will also reduce traffic at Sealdah Railway Station.

Metro began operating on this corridor for the first time on February 14, 2020. On October 4, 2020, it was extended all the way to Phoolbagan Station. Howrah and Sealdah, the two busiest railway stations in Asia, will be connected by a metro line.

A 2.33 km stretch of this corridor, from Phoolbagan to Sealdah, was added at a cost of Rs 1,250 crore.

By 2023, the East-West Metro Corridor Project should be finished. This Metro service will cross the Hooghly river 33 metres below the riverbed, making it the first Metro in the nation to do so.

More than 9 lakh passengers per day are anticipated to use this Metro service. Around 1.83 million passengers per day are anticipated to use the Sealdah Metro station by 2025.
