Kolkata metro’s Seldah link starts its operation
The East-West Metro's Seldah link was commissioned on July 11, and it will begin commercial service on Thursday. The train will travel 9 kilometers in 21 minutes from Sector V to Seldah at 10-minute intervals and will cost 10 rupees.Once the entire 16-kilometer corridor is connected via the Hooghly River in the coming year, Howrah Maidan station, where the dais is positioned, will become one of the East-West Metro's terminal stations (the other being Sector V).
Since March 2020, Line 2 of the Kolkata metro has run from Sector V to Phoolbagan, a distance of 6.6 km in six stations. With the addition of a seventh station and a 2.3 km stretch, the metro's east-west route is now expected to see an increase in daily foot traffic from 3,000 to 45,000 people.
The East-West Metro has automatic train control as well as a signaling system that is designed to stop trains automatically at each station with doors that are synced with the platform screen doors. This simplifies a driver's responsibility.
The commissioning of Sealdah station, which had been approved by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) on March 24, was postponed as a result of the Bowbazaar incident. On June 23, CRS was required to extend the safety approval's validity by an additional three months.
