Kohima gets Rs 2.45 bn this year in Smart Cities funding

The Centre has released Rs 3,075.14 billion for 100 Smart Cities across India as of July 8 this year. The amount includes Rs 2.45 billion for Kohima, the lone city from Nagaland selected for the Smart Cities Mission (SCM).

According to Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) data, since the financial year 2015-16, Nagaland has been receiving the funds intermittently. The highest amount was released by in FY 2017-18, Rs 1.09 billion, followed by Rs 790 million in 2019-20.

During the current FY 2022-23, Rs 490 million has been released so far, as per the State-wise details of funds released by the Centre under SCM and their utilisation provided by the Minister of State MoHUA, Kaushal Kishore, in a written reply in parliament on July 18. Of this, around 80% has been utilised for Kohima smart city development, the data indicated.

In Nagaland, the SCM is being undertaken under the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), company registered in 2016 to implement the mission for Kohima. The implementation jurisdiction is in the area under Kohima Municipal Council (KMC).The state capital Kohima was selected for the SCM in September 2016.
