Railways awards contract for supply of wheels & axles

The Indian Railways has awarded three tenders for the supply of axles and wheels worth more than Rs 500 crore to a Hong Kong-based firm, TZ (Taizhong). The items will be made in China and imported to India to meet the local requirement.

The tenders were awarded in May and June, according to documents available on the railway ministry website.
The Railway Ministry had informed the Lok Sabha that an order to procure 39,000 wheels for train coaches from the company was placed after a Ukraine-based company failed to meet the contract due to the Russian invasion of the country.

On June 1, the Railways placed an order for procuring 30,000 axles for wagons from TZ, Hong Kong, which will be used by the railways for freight movement.
