PWD to assess the smart road projects in Thiruvananthapuram

The board of the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (STCL) has tasked the Public Works Department (PWD) secretary with examining the current progress of smart road projects in the city.

STCL had previously sought the state government's agreement to not extend the contract of the private business that had been awarded the work on the smart Road project within the city's corporate borders. The deadline for finishing the work on the company roads was May 31. A note was apparently sent to the secretary of the local self-government department, noting the firm's failure to meet the deadline.

It has been determined to remove 23 corporation roads from the contractor's scope of work. A new tender will be issued for the construction of 23 corporation roads.

Concerning the 17 roads where work has already begun, the PWD secretary will decide whether to continue with the current contractor or explore alternative choices.

A show-cause notice had previously been issued to the contractor. The city corporation had already informed SCTL that it did not wish to continue working with the private enterprise on the project's implementation.

Mayor Arya Rajendran, senior corporation officials, and works committee chairman D.R. Anil met with the contractor and even pledged to send staff to finish the job.
