Odisha will soon see 12 new steel projects

Twelve new steel mills would soon be built in the State, the State government notified the Assembly. addressing a query from Druba Steel and Mines Minister Prafulla Mallick told BJD representative Charan Sahu that the State currently has 51 steel plants with a combined annual production capacity of 33.12 million tonne, and another 12 plants with a combined annual production capacity of 60.4 million tonne (MTPA) are in the planning stages. JSW Utkal Steel has planned to build a major steel project with a 12 MTPA capacity plant at Gadakunjanga near the Paradip port as one of the twelve projects.

A 19.2 MTPA steel project at Banarpal in the Angul district was approved by the State government last year for construction by Jindal Steel Odisha, while a 24 MTPA project at Mahakalpada in Kendrapara was suggested by Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India Ltd. At Kalinganagar in Jajpur, the Beekay Utkal Steel Industries. is building a 2.245 MTPA factory. The remaining six projects will be completed as follows: three in the Sundargarh district, one in each of the following districts: Dhenkanal, Jajapur, and Jharsugida. Additionally, the State government has given 12 steel projects the necessary approval for capacity development.
