Maharashtra nod for NMC’s proposal to upgrade STPs

Pulkundwar said, “The proposal would now be sent to the Centre for final approval before it releases funds for this project. The nod of the state government was mandatory before the proposal could be sent to the central government.”
The major concern for the NMC is that the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) levels of the treated sewage at its old STPs are in the range of 20 and 25. The same, as per the environment norms, needs to be brought below 10.
NMC has undertaken to upgrade the old STPs following the Bombay high court order on Godavari River pollution, wherein the court had also ordered the civic body to upgrade its old STPs.
